Helping Nonprofits Share Their Stories

Good storytelling has the power to change the world. A compelling story can inspire compassion, hope, and a sense of community. That’s why we at Corduroy Media believe it’s critical to help tell the stories of those who are most in need – like the countless nonprofits struggling to survive in this uncertain economy.

Small budget, big impact

We do quite a bit of work with nonprofits, most of which are operating with limited budgets. But a small budget has never stopped us from creating a film with a big impact. Take, for instance, the pro bono project we’ve recently wrapped for Yoots, a Bay Area organization.

Yoots, or the Youth Transportation Organization, is a 501(c)(3) organization committed to providing transportation for underprivileged K-12 children. Through partnerships with healthcare providers, athletic centers, and educational programs, Yoots provides transportation that gives children access to opportunities, experiences, and adventures that would otherwise be out of their reach.

To continue to offer these much-needed services, Yoots needs to secure partnerships, raise money, and build an awareness of who they are and what they do. The best way to accomplish this? To tell a compelling story about their mission and their values. That’s where we came in.

Bringing the vision to life

We believe Yoots is doing important work, and as with all our clients, it was important that we help make sure their message is conveyed in a clear, captivating way. We also needed it to accurately reflect their image. As a San Francisco video production company, we create branded content for a quite a few tech companies, and when we use animation for those tech projects, it often has a hyperreal, futuristic quality. But for the Yoots project, we took a different approach.

Since Yoots is focused on helping children, we opted for a more traditional animation style to evoke a sense of playfulness. The textured illustrations have a hand-drawn appearance, and the cute characters convey the child-centered focus of the organization’s mission.

As you can see, the finished product is a lot different from some of the more high-tech animation we’ve produced for other clients. And that departure from our usual style is exactly what we loved about it.

Rising to the challenge

Working with Yoots to tell their story, in their way, was a unique opportunity for us. Not only did we have the chance to support a non-profit organization that’s providing vital services to those who need it most, but we were also able to flex our animation muscles a bit. Walking with Yoots through the creative design process introduced us to new styles and techniques. The end result is a strong, persuasive story for the client, and a more robust animation portfolio for us.

We enjoyed both the creative concept and the technical challenge of the work we did for Yoots, without a doubt. Beyond that, we were also grateful for the opportunity take part in a project that serves the community at large by helping underprivileged youths to take advantage of services and participate in adventures that will help them reach their full potential.

No matter what your story is, Corduroy Media can help you share it in an interesting, innovative way.
